About the role

Northbay Systems is revamping the performance and reliability of its customer‑facing services. We need a PostgreSQL Administrator who can design, tune, and automate database operations to meet strict latency and uptime targets.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing PostgreSQL workloads and identify bottlenecks
• Implement indexing, partitioning, and query‑optimisation strategies
• Set up automated backups, replication, and failover mechanisms
• Develop monitoring dashboards and alerting for database health
• Collaborate with application engineers to align schema changes with service upgrades

Must-have skills

• 5+ years managing PostgreSQL in production
• Deep knowledge of performance tuning, vacuum, and WAL management
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to work independently

Nice to have

• Familiarity with MongoDB or MySQL environments
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
