About the role

Northbay Systems is undertaking a performance and reliability overhaul of its customer‑facing services. We need a Database Administrator who can fine‑tune our data layer, reduce latency, and ensure uptime during peak traffic.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze current query patterns and index usage across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL clusters.
• Implement performance‑boosting configurations and partitioning strategies.
• Design and execute automated backup, replication, and failover procedures.
• Monitor health metrics and set up alerts for latency spikes or replication lag.
• Collaborate with dev teams to refactor inefficient queries and schema designs.

Must-have skills

• 5+ years managing PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL in production.
• Deep knowledge of query optimization, indexing, and sharding.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and automation (Ansible, Terraform).
• Strong troubleshooting skills under high‑load conditions.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with containerized database deployments.
• Knowledge of cloud‑native database services (AWS RDS, Azure Cosmos DB).
