Senior PHP Developer – API Design

About the role

NexGen Media is launching a security hardening initiative for its cloud‑hosted applications. We need a seasoned PHP Developer to audit existing code, plug vulnerabilities, and implement robust authentication and encryption controls. You will work closely with the security lead to ensure compliance with industry standards while keeping performance intact.

Key responsibilities

• Perform code reviews focused on security best practices
• Refactor legacy PHP modules to use modern, hardened patterns
• Integrate secure token‑based authentication and role‑based access controls
• Configure and tune MySQL settings for encrypted data at rest
• Write automated tests that validate security mitigations
• Document changes and provide knowledge transfer to the internal team

Must-have skills

• 5+ years of professional PHP development
• Deep experience with Laravel framework
• Strong understanding of MySQL security features
• Proven track record securing cloud‑based PHP applications
• Familiarity with OWASP Top 10 and secure coding guidelines

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS security services
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for automated security testing
• Background in containerization (Docker)
